Places - The Netherlands - Bourtagne
Bourtange is a fortress village located in the municipality of Westerwold, province of Groningen. These star-shaped fortresses were built during the Dutch Revolt. All houses and warehouses are located inside, the city walls surrounded by water. Many of the buildings have sharp and blunt corners because, from the centrally located round square, all the streets run to the corners of the fortresses. In the summer, numerous historical events are held within the fortresses, including the Battle of Bourtagne with a reenacting.
