Krk is an island in the Kvarner Bay at the coast of Croatia. With its 405.22 square kilometers is it the second largest island in the Adriatic Sea. The island, which is connected by a bridge to the mainland since 1980 was called Veglia in Italian, the German name was Vegl. Krk is also called the 'Golden Island' (Zlatni otok). In ancient times the island was named Curicum or Curicta's.
